We are living in a time where God is being taken out of schools, the workplace, communities, television, and long-standing memorials. If we turn on the news it appears as if we (believers) are losing ground. As injustice around the globe is at an all-time high, it appears as if our hands are tied and there is nothing we can do. Luke 18:1 (NIV) states, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
In Luke, the 18th chapter Jesus tells the disciples a story of a judge who never gave God a thought and cared nothing for people. A widow in that city kept telling him, “My rights are being violated. Protect me!” The judge never gave the widow the time of day, but she kept after him. She did not quit! After some time the judge says to himself, “ I care nothing what God thinks even less what people think, but because the widow won’t quit badgering me, I’d better go do something and see that she gets justice.”
Jesus uses this parable to explain to the disciples that as corrupt as the judge was, he was moved by the widows persistence. Jesus poses the question, What makes you think that He won’t step in and work justice for His people, who cry out for help. He assures the disciples in Luke 18, that He will stick up for them and that He would not drag His feet about what concerns them. The same promise made to the disciples applies to all believers. We don’t have to worry when we have a promise!
Intercessory prayer is not just something for a select group of believers, we all should be praying for our home, schools, communities and government. We don’t have to feel hopeless when God has provided a sure fire strategy against every battle we may face. Now is the time like never before to pray without ceasing. Pray until we see a change in our homes, schools, communities and government. Pray until we see justice. Pray knowing that Jesus has promised us that He will answer.
